I love Clapham

Some of our houses are in Clapham, in the south of London, zone 2.

If it’s the first time you come to London, it is probably you have never heard about this neighbourhood, though when you visit it, you will not want to leave it.

If you see the tube map you will see the tube stations: Clapham North, Clapham South, Clapham Common and Clapham Junction, then you will wonder “which Clapham are we talking about?” In reality we have our houses along these tube stations, so you will find one of them near our properties. The distance among the stations it is 2 minutes by tube and 5 minutes by bus. Therefore we are talking about the whole Clapham. J

Clapham Common park: where you can run, read, participate in some activities such as Zumba or aerobic. One of the most charming places that London has, are its Parks!

The music festival that takes place in August. It consists in 2 days of electronic music in Clapham Common Park. It is one of the experiences we recommend to not miss in United Kingdom. Restaurants, pubs, cafes... You have the popular Starbucks, McDonalds,etc. However, you will find out all kind of bars, pubs and restaurants of every part of the World. Either Clapham High Street (between Clapham Common and Clapham North) or Clapham junction are full of restaurants and pubs. You could find Mexican, Indian, Spanish, Italian food... Also, most of the restaurants have terrace and when the weather is good it is a perfect place to meet friends. .

Clapham Common Market: the last Saturday of the month you could come to the market to buy fresh products and on Sundays you could buy flowers or plants too.

Anyway, it is difficult to explain why we like so much Clapham. It is the atmosphere, that you have everything near without going to the centre, the possibility of living with people of the city and not with loads of tourists.

It is like being in a bubble, without the bustle of Piccadilly but you don’t have to give it up as you have it from 30 minutes by tube.

PRIMERA VISITA: ISLINGTON CENTRE OF ENGLISH

Hoy he visitado la escuela Islington Centre of English que como su nombre bien indica se encuentra situada en el distrito de Islington, en zona 1. He tomado el metro en Clapham North (donde se encuentra nuestro oficina) y en 30 minutos estaba bajando en la estación de metro Angel. La escuela está increíblemente situada a 1 minuto andando desde la parada de metro. Es más, desde la estación se ve la escuela, para que veáis que no os engaño he aquí una foto que he sacado a la salida del metro (he colocado el logo en la foto para que sepáis donde se encuentra exactamente).

Lo primero en lo que me he fijado es  que se trata de una zona con mucha vida y a pocos pasos puedes encontrar varias cafeterías, pubs, tiendas, gimnasio, etc.  Esto me parece muy interesante porque después de las clases tienes la posibilidad de tomarte algo con tus compañeros de clase, profesores y seguir así practicando tu inglés fuera de las aulas.  

Pero si algo hay que destacar de esta escuela es la proximidad con la que te tratan. Cuando he llegado me han recibido en recepción muy amablemente y el director de la escuela, Tim Shoben, no ha tardado nada en venir a recibirme y enseñarme su escuela. Con aproximadamente 200 alumnos activos Tim sigue denominando a su escuela como una escuela pequeña en la que la relación es primordial y la verdad es que me lo ha demostrado desde el primer momento. Me ha mostrado con gran entusiasmo toda su escuela y no ha dudado en posar para nuestro blog. 

La escuela cuenta con 9 clases y en cada una de ellas, acogen a un máximo de 15 estudiantes. Se trata de una escuela con estudiantes jóvenes, con una media de 21 años, aunque también podemos encontrar a alumnos más mayores. Esto se debe a los variados cursos que ofrecen, ya que además del popular General English Course también imparten una gran variedad de cursos de preparación de exámenes, entre los cuales se encuentran los exámenes de Cambridge FCE y CAE, BEC Higher y BEC Vantage, el IELTS y el ILEC (Legal English). Este último examen no lo ofrecen demasiadas escuelas y Tim me ha comentado que acaban de tener 3 personas que se han presentado y han pasado la prueba satisfactoriamente J
